Does this vocal app record or upload my voice?
No. The microphone signal is analysed inside your browser and is not recorded, uploaded or sent to an API. The app only stores settings and completed range summaries locally on your device, and you can clear those at any time.
Why does the detector ignore some sounds?
That is intentional. Breathing, handling noise and very brief squeaks are unreliable pitch evidence, so the detector requires a clear signal and the range test requires a note to be sustained before it can change your measured low or high note.
Will it work on a phone?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser with microphone permission. On iPhone and iPad, reference tones may be muted by the hardware silent switch even while microphone detection works, so every audio cue is paired with a visible cue.
What do the cents numbers mean?
A cent is one hundredth of a semitone. Zero cents means the detected frequency is centred on the displayed equal-tempered note; a negative value is flat and a positive value is sharp. The number is most meaningful while you hold a steady tone.
